Overwriting NTFS Streams
Windows NT 4.0, 2000/XP and later operating systems using or
supporting NTFS disk partition support so called NTFS streams feature.
These are additional data areas associated with file names that may
contain data contents. Here is a small test that you may run:
From Windows, click on Start | Run, and then type
notepad c:\myfile.txt:MySecretData
Type in "password" click "Save" in
"File" menu. Now click on Start | Run, and then type notepad
c:\myfile.txt Type in "my
data" and click "Save" again. You will see in Windows
Explorer that you only have c:\myfile.txt
file, that does contain default data stream with the contents
"my data". In fact you are also storing the work
"password" in "MySecretData" stream. Advanced
