Gutmann's Method

Advanced File Shredder is capable of securely erasing data so that it can not be recovered ever using hardware recovery methods. It is implemented in the software by using a so-called Gutmann's method. This method is based on Peter Gutmann's paper , chapter "Erasure of data from magnetic media". In this paper it is shown that 35 predefined passes will securely destroy data despite of drive data encoding. The data matrix that this method uses is presented below
