ZINC Profile
Horsehead Holding Corp. (ZINC) was a US-based producer of zinc and nickel-based products used in a variety of industries, including steel, automotive, and construction. The company operated several manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada and was headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Horsehead Holding Corp. was founded in 1948 as a scrap metal recycling company and later expanded into the production of zinc and nickel-based products. The company went public in 2007 and continued to grow its operations through acquisitions and expansions.
However, in 2015, Horsehead Holding Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, citing a decline in commodity prices and increased competition from foreign producers. The company was subsequently acquired by a subsidiary of the private equity firm, American Zinc Recycling LLC, in a bankruptcy auction for $56.1 million.
Following the acquisition, the company's operations were restructured and consolidated under the American Zinc Recycling brand. The Horsehead Holding Corp. name was retired, and the company's manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania and North Carolina were rebranded as American Zinc Recycling operations.
As of February 2023, Horsehead Holding Corp. no longer exists as a standalone company, and its operations have been absorbed by American Zinc Recycling.
