Providence and Worcester Railroad Company (PWX) was a publicly-traded company that operated as a regional freight railroad in the United States. The company was founded in 1844 and was headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts.
PWX's railroad network spanned approximately 512 miles in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island, serving customers in a variety of industries including construction materials, chemicals, food products, and petroleum.
In 2016, the railroad was acquired by Genesee & Wyoming, a global rail freight transportation company. As a result of the acquisition, PWX was delisted from the NASDAQ stock exchange and is no longer publicly traded.
