City Bancorp, Inc. (HCBK) is a bank holding company that was
headquartered in Paramus, New Jersey. As of September 2021, HCBK was
acquired by M&T Bank Corporation, and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary
of M&T Bank.
HCBK operated as the holding company for Hudson
City Savings Bank, which offered a range of banking products and
services to customers in the New York metropolitan area and
surrounding regions. The bank focused primarily on residential
mortgage lending, and was known for offering competitive rates on home
loans.
Prior to its acquisition by M&T Bank, HCBK was a
publicly-traded company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. The
company had a market capitalization of approximately $5 billion at the
time of the acquisition. HCBK had a long history of serving its
customers, having been founded in 1868.
